6 Tips for Back-to-School School Safety

by | Aug 11, 2022 | Strauss Security

There is nothing more important than the safety of you and your family. As a new school year approaches, it is a good time to evaluate your family’s routines and develop a plan for the year ahead. If your children spend time alone in your home after school, now is the time to make sure your safety measures in and outside of your home are up to date.

Below are 6 tips for creating your family’s back-to-school safety plan:

1. Set Up Remote Access

Instead of hiding a key in a fake rock or risking your child losing a key – you can set-up a smart door locks. You can program individual access codes for each family member to track who has come and gone. Smart lock tracks codes to keep you informed about who is in your house at any given time. You can even lock or unlock your door remotely using the app on your mobile device.

2. Video Doorbells

You can see when your child leaves the home for school and returns at the end of the day by installing a video doorbell. You can even use the 2-way audio function to talk to your child to greet them when they get home. For older children, this is also helpful by safely allowing them to see who is at the door before answering.

3. Temperature Control

Schedule and adjust the temperature of your home with a Smart Thermostat. When your loved ones arrive home the smart thermostat can automatically adjust the temperature to a pre-defined temperature setting. Thus enabling your student to begin the afternoon activities in a comfortable environment. Strauss even has thermostat models that will lock so it cannot be changed without a code, keeping those small hands from making drastic changes to the temperature of your home.

4. Safes and Contacts

There are probably items around your home that you do not want your children to have access to while you are away. You can install Strauss contacts to secure the forbidden spots in your home so that the liquor cabinet, beer or wine fridge, jewelry box, gun cabinet, etc. are safely secured. You can also visit the Strauss Showroom to browse our wide range of home safes including gun safes, fire safes, and pistol safes.

5. Internal Cameras

Once the kids are home, you may want to know what it is they are actually up to in the hours before you come home. At Strauss we can install indoor video cameras to ensure your children are doing their homework or chores assigned to them. And if not, on certain models – you can talk to them through the cameras to give them that appropriate parental nudge, ensuring that they are doing what they are supposed to be doing.

6. Safety Measures

You never know what could happen in your home when your child is home alone. Our monitored safety detectors are ALWAYS ON, providing an extra level of protection when you are at work and your children are at home. Installing detection systems such as carbon monoxide detectors, smoke, and water detection sensors are vital for the safety of your children.
